The Heavy D Stick Burning Heat Diffuser from Smoke Daddy Inc. is the ultimate upgrade for pitmasters who want real stick-burner smoke without giving up the convenience of a pellet grill. This diffuser transforms your existing pellet grill into a true wood-burning smoke machine, delivering deeper smoke flavor, better bark, and competition-level results.

Designed to fit most pellet grills (see dimension image and compatibility list below), the Heavy D allows you to burn full-size wood splits or large wood chunks directly over the burn pot—producing rich, clean smoke that pellets alone can’t match. A dedicated version is also available for Pit Boss grills with curved drip pans.

Temperature Management Note:
Due to the additional heat produced by burning real wood, you may need to crack the grill lid slightly to maintain your target temperature. Once the wood has burned completely, the lid can be closed and operated normally.

The Heavy D Stick Burning Heat Diffuser introduces real wood combustion directly into the cooking process. By allowing full-size wood sticks or large chunks to smolder slowly over the burn pot flame, it generates richer smoke compounds, including those responsible for deeper smoke flavor, better smoke ring formation, and enhanced bark texture.

This method replicates the smoke characteristics of a true stick burner—without constant fire management—giving you the best of both worlds: pellet grill convenience with authentic wood-fired results.

Custom 3" Heat Diffuser Risers for Custom Builds

For custom smoker builds, we offer 3″ heat diffuser risers designed to position the heat diffuser 3 inches above the burn pot. This added clearance allows heat to disperse more evenly throughout the cooking chamber, improving temperature consistency and overall performance.

    The Heavy D has changed my perspective: I’m no longer selling my workhorse Traeger 780 Pro! After just one cook, smoked chicken thighs for an hour and fifteen minutes with one apple chunk, I brought in the finished thighs and was immediately met with, “That’s smoked chicken!” I haven’t had smoke flavor that good since my Big Green Egg. I could not recommend the Heavy D more!

    This works awesome. Much better smoke than the pellets alone. It’s also heavy gauge steel and well made. I’d recommend using longer splits rather than wood chunks with lava rock. I’ve tried both and the longer splits are just easier plus they generally last longer.
